Businesses for Excellence in Education is an Action Greensboro initiative demonstrating the business community's strong support of public education and, in particular: raising student performance, closing the achievement gap, promoting excellence in education, and enhancing teacher quality.
Corporate donations currently support four programs in the Guilford County Schools:
- The Academic All-Star Camp, 3-week summer day camps for high-achieving rising 9th graders, designed to strengthen their verbal, quantitative and leadership skills.
- Recruiting and nurturing teachers through a three-year, full-tuition scholarship program for students who commit to teach for a minimum of four years in Guilford County Schools.
- The annual Celebration of Excellence in Education recognizing and rewarding the outstanding performance of the 15 most academically-improved schools, their top two students, and the teachers chosen by these top students as having the most positive influence on them while attending the school.
- The UNCG Cohort Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership designed for Guilford County Schools administrators. Principals earn their doctorates over three years. Businesses for Excellence in Education pays two-thirds of tuition costs, and participants pay the remaining one-third.
