Information Collection and Use Action Greensboro and its initiatives (e.g. synerG) collect certain personal information about their Web site visitors only when the visitors are making secure ecommerce transactions on our Web site(s). The only information collected is required to make secure online transactions. This information is not shared with or sold to any other parties.
Action Greensboro does not collect personal information about you without your knowledge. If you choose to provide information on the ActionGreensboro.org Web site through site registration, surveys or forms, Action Greensboro may use that information as described in this policy. We will not sell, trade or give away your name, email addresses, or contact information l or distribute any information about you to business partners or third party individuals for their own marketing or sales use. We take your privacy as seriously as we take our own. That's why we will not send you unsolicited correspondence.
From time to time, we may ask you for permission to use your name and contact information for a specific purpose. We will only act on that with your permission. Action Greensboro collects the nonprofit supporters' email addresses to send them confirmation of the transaction for the nonprofit supporters' records. When making an online donation to Action Greensboro, or purchasing a service, such as a ticket to an event, donors may be asked to check a box to "receive email updates" from Action Greensboro or its related initiatives. We will obtain that information and may choose to send email updates to the donor. Action Greensboro will not store passwords. You can remove your email address from the Action Greensboro email update list by clicking the appropriate opt-out feature on every email sent to the list.
Action Greensboro takes reasonable precautions to protect donor and buyer information. When site visitors submit sensitive information via our Web site, their information is protected both online and off-line. When a form asks donors or buyers to enter sensitive information (such as credit card number or address), that information is encrypted and is protected with current effective SSL encryption software. While on a secure page, such as a donation form, the lock icon on the bottom of Web browsers such as Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer becomes locked.
Cookies Action Greensboro uses "session cookies" while a visitor is making a donation or purchasing a service using an Action Greensboro ecommerce form. "Cookies" are bits of information that are stored by your browser on your hard drive. We use "session cookies" so that we can properly verify a purchaser or donator’s identity as they move from one page to the next during the ecommerce process. We also "session cookies" in addition to verifying personal information, so that we can provide secure access to donor information. These session cookies are not linked to personally identifiable information. This cookie resides on your computer and identifies you only to Action Greensboro and its initiatives for ecommerce transactions with Action Greensboro and its initiatives on their Web sites.
Credit Card Transactions Our shopping cart uses industry-standard SSL-encryption to protect data transmissions. The information collected will not be given out to any third party, except in connection with processing the transaction. When a site visitor uses the Action Greensboro-enabled services to make an online transaction, the credit card billing information, including the name on the user’s card, billing address, and expiration date, is used to process the transaction. All this information is encrypted using SSL, industry standard secure technology. This encryption is designed to prevent theft or interception of the information. Unlike retailers, who commonly keep complete credit card numbers in case there is a billing dispute, Action Greensboro stores only encrypted versions of nonprofit supporters' credit card numbers. Action Greensboro has access to only the last four digits of the number, and a transaction identification number issued for identification purposes. However, in a case such as a billing dispute, it may be necessary for Action Greensboro to have access to the entire credit card number. In such a case, we will try to help the user resolve the billing dispute with only the encrypted number. If that is not possible, Action Greensboro ensures that the nonprofit supporter's credit card number is released only to authorized employees.
Legal Considerations The Online Transaction Privacy Policy outlined above is subject to any legal requirements of disclosure dictated by statute or by an order of an appropriate court of law. Though ActionGreensboro.org makes every effort to preserve donor and customer privacy, we may need to disclose personal information when required by law and when we have a good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a current judicial proceeding, a court order or legal process served on our organization.
Changes to our privacy policy If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes to our homepage, this privacy statement, and other places we deem appropriate so our donors and customers are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it. If, however, we are going to use users' personally identifiable information in a manner different from that stated at the time of collection we will notify users via email.
