TASK FORCE FOCUS
Center City / Downtown Development

To develop an overall plan, based on previous work and new discussion, for the center city area of Greensboro. There are five subcommittees:

Volunteers. Involving people in implementing the Center City Plan.

Housing. Promoting increased downtown housing.

Activities. Bringing people downtown.

Education. Educating the community about the Downtown Master Plan.

Historic Preservation. Identifying recommendations and or design guidelines to preserve the heritage of Downtown and the Historic District.

Economic Development and Business Recruitment
To develop a target business cluster concept and an action agenda for proactive recruitment of business to the community to supplement ongoing reactive recruitment; to identify potential business ventures that can be used to transform current industries.

Entrepreneurism and Small Business Development
To identify action steps to bring together the resources for business creation and support; to develop a strategy for small business creation particularly in economically underserved areas and populations.

Attracting and Retaining Young Professionals
To identify action steps to enhance the viability of Greensboro for young professionals

The Public Schools
To identify action steps to improve the public schools with attention to emphasizing the positives, serving bright students, closing the achievement gap, and developing public understanding and support.

Strengthening Greensboro's Brand and Image
To identify action steps to create a positive attitude among Greensboro's citizens about the future of the community; to present a positive forceful image to the external world.

This task force has spun off Greensboro Connects, housed and jointly supported by the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce.
